MIZANO JAPAN 1950's TIN ELECTROMOBILE. OOAK CUSTOM CHUBBY BUICK TAXI CAR. The MIZANO JAPAN ELECTROMOBILE was one of the first battery-operated Japanese cars made based on cars built in America. The toy's design is based on a 1950's Buick, but it's not really accurate, it's a stylized, chubby interpretation.
Nobody does "cute" better than the Japanese. Working features on the car include: the top "TAXI" light and the head lights, which are controlled by the switch on the right side.
Forward and reverse motion is controlled by the switch on the left side. Steering is adjusted via the hood ornament. This particular example started out as a MIZANO ELECTROMOBILE TAXI. It was repurposed to be a prop in a film project and was extensively modified. The mods include: New paint colors and design, new markings (only the rear tail lights and license plate are from the original litho) the red/white checker band has been altered. The door handles are actual plated metal, instead of just being illustrated by the litho. The top TAXI dome is entirely original to this example, it's created out of a frosted plastic dome crowned in plated metal and lighted by a green LED. The interior features a driver, a "cabby" as they were once called, and he's decked out in a green uniform. He's grasping a steering wheel.
All these OOAK features are unique to this example. These features required time and craftsmanship to create. We think the added value shows. The taxi is 8 1/4 inches in length, and requires two "D" size batteries to run.So if you're a collector who can think outside the box and beyond categorical definitions, and actually see that this is a delightful, quality piece, this may be an opportunity for you.
