Vintage ALPS Japan Battery Operated Op Tin Litho Picnic Bear in Box

From original owner's smoke-free home. Bear is in very good condition with minimal wear, but did not work when I put batteries in.

Battery compartment is clean, so maybe a loose wire inside that needs resoldering? Box has some wear from storage -- most notably a split on one edge of the box front.
